Waste material sits underneath four identical rocks forms. The original rock sits in a pile of dirt from the original location of its river home. It is the lowest height of the four mounds. The second rock form is cast in aluminum and sits on a pile of discarded resin bonded sand which was used to make the casting. Next in height is the iron rock sitting on a pile of slag, which is discarded from the furnace used to create the casting. The highest rock form is cast in bronze and sits on top of a pile of silica sand used to mold the material in ceramic shell. Although the form is identical the material creates a value system. This installation asks why do we value certain materials more than others, and what is the value of material that is considered disposable in art making practice?
